ASAM, an international technical standardization organization in automotive electronics and automated testing, plans to expand its work scope to include Telematics.

The member organization Cummins has approached ASAM with the request to further document common use cases relating to over-the-air communication.

As a first step, Cummins Inc. and ASAM will co-host a workshop on “Remote 2-Way Communication” taking place on March 31, 2016 in Novi, Michigan, US. All global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier-1 suppliers (members and non-members) are invited to participate and to discuss standardization potential in the areas of:

  • telematics security
  • remote software / calibration updates
  • remote adjustment
  • remote diagnostics
  • prognostics
  • Big Data exchange services.

The workshop will create a common understanding of the challenges and potential paths to solutions that can be addressed by a standardization project.

ASAM coordinates the development of technical standards. These standards define protocols, data models, file formats and application programming interfaces (APIs) for the use in the development and testing of automotive electronic control units. The work scope of ASAM is currently defined as the areas of Measurement & Calibration, ECU Networks, Diagnostics, Test Automation, Software Development and Data Management & Analytics.

Founded in 1998 as a German association, ASAM has more than 150 international members, including major OEMs in Europe, North America, and Asia.
