According to a study by Auto Trader, only 21% of British drivers would consider purchasing a fully autonomous car in the future. The agency which has polled around 5,500 UK motorists stated.

Also, a survey in the US called AAA has revealed that U.S. drivers seek autonomous technologies in their next vehicle, but remain apprehensive about a fully self-driving car. The report says that three-quarters (78%) of Americans are afraid to ride in a self-driving vehicle.

These numbers are significant considering the fact that major automakers are planning to launch self-driving cars by the end of the decade. If the US and UK which are considered among the technologically advanced nations with people more adaptive of the new technologies have such a large number of people who are apprehensive of autonomous cars then the other markets where the awareness is even lesser the situation can be worse.

The reports have cited lack of understanding of the technology and love for driving as the reasons which have resulted in these numbers. The traditional automakers, as well as the tech giants, need a lot of brainstorming over this before they can go on with their commercialisation plans.
